About the Department

London's mid-century auctioneers

Danish teak, Ercol, G-Plan and Scandinavian design remain consistently popular. A Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen rosewood dining set sold for £2,128.

Our mid-century sales feature Danish teak furniture, Scandinavian design and British classics from makers including Ercol and G Plan, alongside period lighting, studio pottery and retro textiles. Every lot is assessed by our in-house team, who draw on years of experience valuing pieces sourced from private individuals, probate estates, executors and house clearances.

If you have mid-century furniture or design pieces you no longer want or need, whether a single sideboard or an entire collection, London Auctions can help you unlock its full value. We offer free initial valuations with no obligation, and whether you choose to proceed with us or not, our team will give you honest, practical advice on the best route to market.

Sell With Us

Selling mid-century furniture with London Auctions

Every month our sales include a good range of mid-century modern furniture, from teak sideboards to rosewood cocktail cabinets. Much of it comes directly from house clearances across London and Surrey, so it is fresh to the market rather than pieces that have been around the trade for months.

Condition is key. Collectors and dealers pay substantial premiums for pieces in good original condition, and we are proud that most of our mid-century stock is in original, unrestored condition. Our team works closely with independent mid-century specialists for anything unusual.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How do I get a free mid-century furniture valuation?

You can get a free valuation three ways: visit our saleroom Monday to Friday (8:30am-4:30pm) or at our valuation mornings every other Saturday, send photos via WhatsApp for the fastest response, or submit an online request with photos and a description. For larger pieces of furniture or full collections, we can also arrange a home visit. One of the team responds within one working day, with no obligation to consign.

What sort of mid-century furniture and design do you sell?

We sell Danish teak furniture, Scandinavian design and British mid-century classics from makers including Ercol and G Plan, alongside period lighting, studio pottery and retro textiles. We also handle full house clearances, estates and probate collections featuring mid-century pieces, from a single sideboard to the entire contents of a property.

How much does it cost to sell?

Our fee structure is simple: a £5 + VAT lotting fee per item for furniture, or £1.50 + VAT for smaller mid-century pieces such as lighting or ceramics, plus 18% + VAT commission on the hammer price. For example, £1,000 worth of mid-century furniture sold would net you £784 after commission, excluding the lotting fee. There’s never a charge for the initial valuation, whether or not you go ahead.

When will I receive payment?

Once your items sell and all buyers have settled their invoices, we process payment by bank transfer within 21 days of the sale ending.

What sells best?

Sideboards, chests of drawers, bedside cabinets, cocktail cabinets, dining suites, armchairs, daybeds, sofas, and lamps and lighting all sell well.

Will pieces that need restoration still sell?

Yes. Pieces that need work still sell, although we usually offer them without reserves to reflect the fact that restoration can be costly.

Is there any furniture you can't accept?

We are unable to accept beds and mattresses, modern furniture and sofas, white goods, general household goods, or low-end modern items. Electrical goods are only accepted if they are of good quality and PAT tested, or of collector’s value. If you are not sure, send us a photo and we will tell you.
