About the Department

London's ceramics and glass auctioneers

Moorcroft, Clarice Cliff, studio pottery and Murano can all sell strongly, while ordinary dinner services usually sell as group lots. We’ll tell you honestly which is which.

Our ceramics and glass sales feature crystal glassware, porcelain, studio pottery and decorative china from makers including Wedgwood, Moorcroft, Royal Doulton, Clarice Cliff and Murano, alongside Victorian, Art Deco and mid-century pieces. Every lot is assessed by our in-house team, who draw on years of experience valuing pieces sourced from private individuals, probate estates, executors and house clearances.

If you have ceramics or glassware you no longer want or need, whether a single vase or an entire collection, London Auctions can help you unlock its full value. We offer free initial valuations with no obligation, and whether you choose to proceed with us or not, our team will give you honest, practical advice on the best route to market.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How do I get a free ceramics and glass valuation?

You can get a free valuation four ways: visit our saleroom Monday to Friday (8:30am-4:30pm) or at our valuation mornings every other Saturday, send photos via WhatsApp for the fastest response, submit an online request with photos and a description, or post smaller, well-packaged items to us free of charge. One of the team reviews your ceramics or glassware in person or from photos and responds within one working day, with no obligation to consign.

What sort of ceramics and glass do you sell?

We sell crystal glassware, cut glass and studio glass including Murano and Lalique, alongside porcelain, studio pottery and decorative china from makers such as Wedgwood, Moorcroft, Royal Doulton and Clarice Cliff. We also handle full estate and probate collections featuring ceramics and glassware, from a single piece to an entire collection.

How much does it cost to sell?

Our fee structure is simple: a £1.50 + VAT lotting fee per item, plus 18% + VAT commission on the hammer price. For example, £1,000 worth of crystal glassware or ceramics sold would net you £784 after commission, excluding the lotting fee. There’s never a charge for the initial valuation, whether or not you go ahead.

When will I receive payment?

Once your items sell and all buyers have settled their invoices, we process payment by bank transfer within 21 days of the sale ending.

What affects the value of ceramics and glass?

Rarity, condition, maker, historical significance and provenance. Antique porcelain such as Meissen, Sèvres and Chinese porcelain, studio pottery, art glass and paperweights by top makers such as Baccarat often perform particularly well.
