About the Department

London's antiques auctioneers

Brown furniture is only part of the story. Georgian bracket clocks, campaign chests, brass, treen and good country oak still sell well, particularly honest pieces in original condition. Our George III double fusée table clock made £2,880 including fees.

Our antiques sales feature furniture, silver, clocks, brass and decorative curios spanning centuries of collecting, from Georgian and Victorian pieces to Edwardian and later finds. Every lot is assessed by our in-house team, who draw on years of experience valuing pieces sourced from private individuals, probate estates, executors and house clearances.

If you have antiques you no longer want or need, whether a single piece of furniture or the contents of an entire house, London Auctions can help you unlock its full value. We offer free initial valuations with no obligation, and whether you choose to proceed with us or not, our team will give you honest, practical advice on the best route to market.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How do I get a free antiques valuation?

You can get a free valuation four ways: visit our saleroom Monday to Friday (8:30am-4:30pm) or at our valuation mornings every other Saturday, send photos via WhatsApp for the fastest response, submit an online request with photos and a description, or post smaller items to us free of charge. One of the team reviews antiques in person or from photos and responds within one working day, with no obligation to consign.

What types of antiques do you sell?

We sell furniture, clocks and barometers, brass and metalware, treen and woodenware, rugs and textiles, mirrors and frames, decorative curios and architectural salvage, spanning Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and later periods. We also handle full estate and probate collections and house clearances, from a single piece of furniture to the entire contents of a property.

How much does it cost to sell?

Our fee structure is simple: a £5 + VAT lotting fee per item for furniture, or £1.50 + VAT for smaller antiques, plus 18% + VAT commission on the hammer price. For example, £1,000 worth of antiques sold would net you £784 after commission, excluding the lotting fee. There’s never a charge for the initial valuation, whether or not you go ahead.

When will I receive payment?

Once your antiques sell and all buyers have settled their invoices, we process payment by bank transfer within 21 days of the sale ending.

Do antiques still sell well at auction?

Yes. Demand for traditional brown furniture has dropped over the last few decades, but many other antiques continue to perform strongly. Studio pottery, watches and jewellery are all categories where we have seen extremely high demand and growth in recent years.

Can you value antiques for probate?

Yes. As well as free auction estimates, we offer chargeable probate valuations of antiques and household contents across London and Surrey.

Is there any furniture you can't accept?

We are unable to accept beds and mattresses, modern furniture and sofas, white goods, general household goods, or low-end modern items. Electrical goods are only accepted if they are of good quality and PAT tested, or of collector’s value. If you are not sure, send us a photo and we will tell you.
