Antiques and fine art at auction: from James Webb to George III

A James Webb view of Paris at £3,500, a C.J. Vander silver canteen at £3,000 and a George III double fusée table clock at £2,300 – some of the best antiques and fine art through our saleroom.

Alongside collectables and jewellery, our monthly sales regularly include antiques, paintings and fine silver, many of them coming straight from private homes and estates. Here are some of the standout results from the past eighteen months.

Paintings and prints

James Webb (c.1825–1895), A View of Paris Looking Towards Notre Dame, oil on canvas – sold for £3,500, March 2025

A James Webb oil on canvas, A View of Paris Looking Towards Notre Dame, signed lower left, led our March 2025 two-day sale at £3,500. Webb was a British landscape and marine painter, and his continental city views are particularly sought after. In the same sale, an oil by François-Antoine Bossuet made £2,700.

Prints by significant artists do well too: an Anders Zorn etching, The Two (1916), signed in pencil, led our February 2026 sale at £420.

Silver

Fine silver by good makers attracts both collectors and the trade. A C.J. Vander solid silver canteen of cutlery for twelve made £3,000 in March 2025, and a pair of hallmarked silver coffee pots and a sugar bowl by Wakely & Wheeler for Garrard & Co, London 1953, weighing 1,780g, led our June 2025 timed auction at £900.
