About the Department

London’s jewellery auctioneers

From gold and diamond rings to costume pieces, every lot is checked, and precious metal can be tested on site with XRF. Unmarked gold and broken jewellery are worth bringing in too.

Our jewellery sales feature antique, vintage and modern pieces, from diamond rings, signed designer works and fine gemstones to silver, gold and costume jewellery. Every lot is assessed by our in-house team, who draw on years of experience valuing pieces sourced from private individuals, probate estates, executors and house clearances.

If you have jewellery you no longer wear or need, whether a single inherited ring or an entire collection, London Auctions can help you unlock its full value. We offer free initial valuations with no obligation, and whether you choose to proceed with us or not, our team will give you honest, practical advice on the best route to market.

Sell With Us

Selling jewellery with London Auctions

The jewellery market is performing extremely well, driven by strong precious metal prices and global demand for gemstones and designer pieces. Our sales regularly feature jewellery from private sellers, probate estates and house clearances, and we draw on independent specialists where needed.

High-street jewellers and pawnbrokers can be convenient, but their offers often reflect a margin for quick resale. We assess your jewellery carefully and explain the best route: auction for fine and designer pieces that benefit from competitive bidding, or, where appropriate, a private sale of scrap to trusted precious metal dealers.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How do I get a free jewellery valuation?

You can get a free valuation four ways: visit our saleroom Monday to Friday (8:30 am–4:30 pm) or at our valuation mornings every other Saturday, send photos via WhatsApp for the fastest response, submit an online request with photos and a description, or post smaller items to us free of charge. One of the team reviews jewellery in person or from photos and responds within one working day, with no obligation to consign.

What types of jewellery do you sell?

We sell antique, vintage and modern jewellery, including diamond rings, sapphire and gemstone pieces, signed designer jewellery (Cartier, Tiffany & Co. and similar), Art Deco and Edwardian pieces, pearl necklaces, brooches and earrings, silver and gold jewellery, costume jewellery, and watches and timepieces. We also handle full estate and probate collections, from a single inherited piece to an entire collection.

How much does it cost to sell?

Our fee structure is simple: A £1.50 + VAT lotting fee per item (jewellery falls under our “smalls” rate, not the furniture rate), plus 18% + VAT commission on the hammer price. For example, £1,000 worth of jewellery sold would net you £784 after commission, excluding the lotting fee. There’s never a charge for the initial valuation, whether or not you go ahead.

When will I receive payment?

Once your jewellery sells and all buyers have settled their invoices, we process payment by bank transfer within 21 days of the sale ending.

How do you test jewellery?

We use electronic gold testers, Presidium electronic gem testers, computerised digital gemstone gauges and XRF analysis, so jewellery is described accurately and buyers can bid with confidence.

Are your fees negotiable for fine jewellery?

Our basic commission is 18% + VAT with a £1.50 + VAT lotting fee, but for fine jewellery our charges are negotiable depending on the value and quantity of items.

Can you help me sell scrap gold?

Yes. We can separate items best valued by metal weight from those that can achieve a premium, and where suitable arrange a private sale to precious metal dealers to support fair pricing.
