0% seller’s commission on gold coins and bullion. Gold sovereigns, bullion, proof sets and inherited collections are all sold with us, and we can test gold and silver with XRF on site.

Our coin sales feature ancient and historic pieces, gold sovereigns, commemorative issues and complete collections spanning centuries of currency. Every lot is assessed by our in-house team, who understand the difference a mint mark, condition grade or rarity can make to value.

If you want to sell old coins, whether a single rare find or an inherited collection, London Auctions can help you unlock its full value. We offer free initial valuations with no obligation, and whether you choose to proceed with us or not, our team will give you honest, practical advice on the best route to market.

Sell With Us

Selling coins with London Auctions

Coin collections are one of the most common types of collection we sell on behalf of vendors. The coin market at auction is extremely strong, largely because coin collecting remains so popular, and our sales reach collectors, investors and dealers worldwide.

Rare and historic coins, key dates, gold and silver coins, proofs, commemoratives, error coins, ancient Roman, Greek and Byzantine coins, and professionally graded coins all tend to attract strong interest. We are happy to give an initial estimate by email from photographs, although some collections are best seen in person.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How do I get a free coin valuation?

You can get a free valuation four ways: visit our saleroom Monday to Friday (8:30am-4:30pm) or at our valuation mornings every other Saturday, send photos via WhatsApp for the fastest response, submit an online request with photos and a description, or post smaller items to us free of charge. One of the team reviews your coins in person or from photos and responds within one working day, with no obligation to consign.

What sort of coins do you sell?

We sell old coins including gold sovereigns, rare and historic currency, commemorative issues and ancient coins, along with banknotes and numismatic items. We also handle full estate and probate collections, from a single rare find to an inherited collection.

How much does it cost to sell?

Our fee structure is simple: a £1.50 + VAT lotting fee per item, plus 18% + VAT commission on the hammer price. For example, £1,000 worth of coins sold would net you £784 after commission, excluding the lotting fee. There’s never a charge for the initial valuation, whether or not you go ahead. Gold coins and bullion are currently sold with 0% seller’s commission.

When will I receive payment?

Once your coins sell and all buyers have settled their invoices, we process payment by bank transfer within 21 days of the sale ending.

Do you charge commission on gold coins and bullion?

We currently charge 0% seller’s commission on gold coins and bullion. For other coins our standard commission is 18% + VAT, but this is negotiable for larger and higher-value collections.

How long does it take from consignment to payment?

From collection to payout usually takes around four to six weeks. It can be slightly longer if we think your collection is best placed in a specialist sale.
