About the Department

London's militaria auctioneers

Medals, badges, uniforms and paperwork are researched carefully. A medal group with its documents and family history is often worth far more than the medals alone.

Our militaria sales feature medals, uniforms, edged weapons, badges and memorabilia from the Napoleonic era through to the World Wars and beyond. Every lot is assessed by our in-house team, who understand the research behind a named medal group or a documented service history and how it affects value.

If you want to sell medals or other militaria, whether a single piece or an entire collection, London Auctions can help you unlock its full value. We offer free initial valuations with no obligation, and whether you choose to proceed with us or not, our team will give you honest, practical advice on the best route to market.

Selling militaria with London Auctions

We regularly handle a diverse range of military items, from rare antique pieces to more modern but equally sought-after items, including antique weapons, uniforms, medals and decorations, documents, war photography, field gear and military artwork.

Our team works closely with independent militaria specialists. We can value most items ourselves, but always have a specialist on hand when needed, and we will always point you in the right direction if we feel auction is not the best way to sell your collection.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How do I get a free militaria valuation?

You can get a free valuation four ways: visit our saleroom Monday to Friday (8:30am-4:30pm) or at our valuation mornings every other Saturday, send photos via WhatsApp for the fastest response, submit an online request with photos and a description, or post smaller items to us free of charge. One of the team reviews your militaria in person or from photos and responds within one working day, with no obligation to consign.

What sort of militaria do you sell?

We sell medals, uniforms, edged weapons, badges and war memorabilia spanning the Napoleonic era to the World Wars and beyond. We also handle full estate and probate collections featuring militaria, from a single medal to an entire collection.

How much does it cost to sell?

Our fee structure is simple: a £1.50 + VAT lotting fee per item, plus 18% + VAT commission on the hammer price. For example, £1,000 worth of militaria sold would net you £784 after commission, excluding the lotting fee. There’s never a charge for the initial valuation, whether or not you go ahead.

When will I receive payment?

Once your militaria sells and all buyers have settled their invoices, we process payment by bank transfer within 21 days of the sale ending.

Do you accept militaria in poor condition?

Yes. We accept militaria in all conditions. Condition is always reflected in the price, but it is rarely a reason not to sell.

Are your fees negotiable for larger collections?

Our standard commission is 18% + VAT, but higher-value items and collections may warrant a negotiated rate. We always give you a clear breakdown of fees before you consign.
